You might be wondering, “why should I ever learn French? It’s not really a universal language and the only time I can speak it is when/if I go to France.” Obviously, this is untrue, there are many places all over the world where it is possible to speak French: North America, Europe, Africa, South America and the South Pacific for example. French is a beautiful language that may not be as popular as English or Spanish or Cantonese but it is filled with rich history and worth learning. If you need a bit of a push to learn this complex but beautiful language, here is an incentive: There are many celebrities who speak French fluently. So, if ever you fall upon your celebrity crush, whether it is Hugh Jackman, Natalie Portman or Bradley Cooper, you can impress them with your knowledge of the French language. Trust us, you never know when this moment might happen.

Ok, yes, we know Marlon Brando is (unfortunately) dead so it is impossible to converse with him in French. But Brando learned to speak French out of necessity because he was hanging out with a lot of French people and wasn’t too happy to be the only one who couldn’t understand. Also, he married Tarita Teriipaia, a French Polynesian actress he met while filming a movie so he needed to be fluent so they could understand each other better.

2Diane Kruger

Diane Kruger, the beautiful German-American actress, speaks French beautifully. She was married to French actor Guillaume Canet for 5 years so that must of helped her a lot also. She’s played in a few French films and loves to conduct interviews in French to practise.

3Jodie Foster

It is incredible how a few years at the Lycée Français in Los Angeles can do to you. Jodie Foster speaks French perfectly and has even told the press that when her English films are made into French, she dubbs her own part! A real superstar!
